Since my invisible dog, Zoltan, learned (Mauritius PM) Ti-Ramgoolam?s visit to Rodrigues (L?express Rod. 07/03), has not been able to contain his emotion and his food has skyrocketed.
Despite intensive medical intervention, recurrent nightmares still haunt my canine friend. The same dream poisoned still in the dark tour ? every night. That is, vivid, full-color, Ti-Ramgoolam landing at Plaine Corail Airport on the back of a giant Pegasus (minus the Aston Villa).
Zoltan speaks of seeing the unholy trinity of Judas Iscariot, Brutus and Benedict Arnold face down on the asphalt, on all fours, yellow fangs dripping with blood and fresh meat, waiting to receive their beloved emperor.
Zoltan also recalls ticker parades of La Ferme de Port Mathurin, and streets filled with counter-rotating Uncle Toms eyes, crazy shaking his chains as a badge of honor. Baby-whales too, he says, are selflessly beaching of Baie Malgache to feed people. Ahh, what a sight, poor Zoltan!
Invariably, the dream always becomes foggy when Pegasus becomes a Gorgon, and ends up chasing his country Zoltan. Not surprisingly, his tail wags ? no more.

Over the years, world leaders, heads of state governors, a prince and a pope also visited our shores and, from time to time, we were honored to receive the odd poppadom oracle and guru wandering. Anyway, according to rumors that the recent visit of Prime Minister Ramgoolam return Rodrigues was the daddy of them all ? the piece de resistance, so to speak. Word on the grapevine jaundice gets somewhere between Macarthur?s return to the Philippines and the Second Coming.
After traveling all the way from the island of Mauritius, forgiveness, the Republic after an absence of eleven years, our globetrotting PM finally landed in Plaine Corail. First look at the great leader is informed enough to send Rodrigues restless heart, women fainted and worship, the old men cried openly fearful that the moment had arrived. A cloying some even said the visit ? the best day of their /> If we breathed in all advertising of the twilight zone and believes that all the righteous of the round, it could have been forgiven for thinking that history, with the camera on his shoulder, had fallen in fact, in Rodrigues, to record this momentous event.
Well, the story did not quite make, so for what it?s worth, here is the version without embedded.
The three leaders of the MR (Rodrigues Movement cum Labour Party faction) sent his unconditional supporters and a mob hire people to serenade Ti-Ramgoolam at the airport. There, about 200 of them (many of which, the locals had never seen before) wrapped in the colors of the party and supplied with water from fire, along with some others who have eaten their own liver for a chance to rub shoulders with Prime Minister, began to sing ?Ramgoolam nou nou Dad ? Dad ? Dad Ramgoolam nou (our father)? ? ad nauseum.
It reminds me a little visit, 1967 Duval. All foam ? no bubble. As Ti-Ramgoolam, he too, was publicly while privately paternal ? Rodrigues nemesis.
Back then, as now, Rodrigues trust even put their hopes on fleeting, forked tongue politicians. Duval feet never touched the ground that day in ?67, the illusion that he was one of us was so powerful that our people took him up on his shoulders and sang, again and again, and so seemed like an eternity ?Ki nou-le-Roi? Sir Ga?tan Duval Ki nou-le-Roi (which is our king)?? Needless to say it was before, were sold out, and threatened to deport all Rodrigues refused to share his new political allegiances. Ok I digress ? less said about that the better -. Clean Slate
Very timely news of thousands attending a drink MR-up, in honor of Ti-Ramgoolam, filtered through. In retrospect, perhaps not unlike the thousands who showed up, got deep around the courts of Old Port Mathurin tennis ten (front left the police station), and wildly applauded as the first Shepherd dog German police make go-search tricks. Why we do it? Curiosity, boredom, or something in the water, who knows? No, I was there that day, among that crowd, in the fear that the Wonder Dog, who amazingly could understand all the commands in English. The year was 1966.
There was also a report of an emotional agent who managed to get MR autograph of the prime minister.
I guess he must have some sentimental value for him, because unless Ti-Ramgoolam capture Osama alone, the poor will not get much for it, in the streets everywhere.
I do not know who the prime minister?s speeches, but bravo, the part where it says ?? with the information technology working in Mont Lubin is like working in Manhattan? was a beauty. Monty Python would be proud.
The prime minister was quoted as saying that he was surprised when the Chief Commissioner of Rodrigues presented with an honorary title of Freeman of Rodrigues. No, no kidding! That?s the name of the title ? Freeman of Rodrigues. Perhaps I was not getting the title so that it pulled, but rather, the wicked irony of its name. Something in the vein of a pyramid-building slave, leaving a mud pit, long enough to bend Pharaoh

. Titles exchanged between peers, as Dorothy Dix parliamentary questions are so common these days that reasonable people no longer take them seriously. They are seen as a ploy to escape the usual taboo self-administered pat on the back. As a general rule, pre-arranged. Therefore, the prime minister was surprised was he? We ? Really!
Figuratively speaking, the leaders do not usually pass MR wind, without first consulting the Prime Minister of Mauritius. So what was soon to grow a backbone, and Ti-Ramgoolam crown their own bats? Bingo! I have a ? draft budget. Very good too. Let?s keep our fingers crossed, otherwise this would have been wonderful subservient to no avail.
What was the title again? It was for all the great things that Ti-Ramgoolam Rodrigues has done in recent years. Aaah right! I must have missed that part.
By the way, remember Zoltan, the invisible dog food out of his learning of the visit of Prime Minister to Rodrigues (L?Express 16 / 3). Now, that was over, Zoltan nightmares have stopped screaming, he is on the mend and is taking his food through a straw.
As we mark his territory, a rictus of a smile playing on his face rugged and old dog can be heard muttering from the side of his mouth ?Ramgoolam Ramgoolam nou nou Papa ? Papa?.
