UPS is predicting its biggest holiday delivery rush ever this year, thanks to shoppers who wait until the last minute to order online.
"Before the explosion of e-commerce, the holiday peak season stretched from Thanksgiving to Christmas; now, it's been compressed to the last two weeks before Christmas," UPS said in a statement?Monday.??
The delivery company said?it expects to handle 120 million packages globally in?the 10 days before Christmas. That's up more than 6 percent from the 113 million packages it delivered at the same time in 2010.
Within those 10 days, it?predicted five days in which?deliveries will exceed 25 million packages a day, versus only one day last?year when that occurred.
The delivery frenzy will peak on Dec. 22,?UPS projected,?when it will handle 26 million?packages in one day.
Beat that, Santa.?
